Eligibility Criteria

  • Commonwealth Scholarships are open to candidates from eligible low and middle-income Commonwealth countries.
  • Applicants must pursue full-time taught studies at a UK university.

Application Process

Applications for Commonwealth Scholarships for the 2024/25 academic year open on September 5 and close on October 17, 2023. All applications must be submitted through the CSC’s online application system. Please note that the CSC cannot accept applications or documentation through any other means.

To ensure a smooth application process, applicants are strongly encouraged to complete and submit their applications well in advance. The online application system is expected to experience high traffic as the deadline approaches.

In addition to applying to the CSC, applicants must apply to a nominating agency. There are two types of nominating agencies:

  1. National nominating agencies (the primary application route).
  2. Selected non-governmental organizations and charitable bodies.

Each nominating agency manages its selection process and may have additional eligibility criteria. Applicants should contact their nominating agency for specific guidance and application rules. Nominating agencies may also set their application deadlines. Scholarship candidates will be nominated to the CSC by December 2023, and the outcome of the application process will be communicated to applicants by July 2024.

Financial Assistance

Each Commonwealth Scholarship offers the following financial support:

  • Approved airfare from home country to the UK and returned at the end of the award.
  • Full tuition fee coverage, as agreed upon between the CSC and the UK university.
  • Stipend (living allowance) at the rate of £1,347 per month, or £1,652 per month for those studying in the London metropolitan area.
  • Warm clothing allowance where applicable.
  • Study travel grant for study-related travel within the UK or overseas.
  • Child allowance for eligible Scholars with children.
  • Additional financial support and assessments for Scholars with disabilities.

The family allowances provided by the CSC are intended to contribute to the cost of supporting their family. Scholars are advised to budget for potential additional expenses.
